Before the start of the summer semester, the Faculty of Education at Palacký University Olomouc had the pleasure of welcoming a distinguished guest. As part of the prestigious Fulbright Scholarship Program, dr. Lucy Delgadillo z Utah State University (USA) will be spending this semester at our faculty. She was officially welcomed by the Dean, Assoc. Prof. Vojtěch Regec, and the Vice-Dean for International Relations, Dr. Jana Kvintová.
Dr. Delgadillo is an expert in financial literacy and has joined our faculty at the invitation of Dr. Alena Opletalová from the Institute of Education. Their collaboration will focus on both research and teaching. Our students now have a unique opportunity to enrol in the course Financial Literacy (KPG/FNG@), offered in both Czech and English.
The course aims to equip students with practical skills for managing their personal finances and for understanding the broader financial landscape – from budgeting and saving to working with credit and the basics of investing. The teaching will naturally include comparisons with American practice, which can provide students with valuable additional perspectives. The course also addresses the pedagogical dimension: how to teach financial literacy meaningfully to lower-secondary school pupils. This focus is reflected in the final project, which forms the course assessment. Students from the whole university can still enrol in the course.
In addition to her own teaching, Dr. Delgadillo will participate in selected seminars across various departments, where she will share her experience from the American academic environment and engage in discussions with students on topics of their interest. The Fulbright Commission is a Czech-American intergovernmental organization that promotes educational, scientific, and cultural exchange through a number of scholarship programmes, as well as advisory and information services. We are very pleased to welcome another Fulbright scholar to our faculty. In previous years, our faculty hosted, among others, Dr. Angela Thomas from Bowling Green State University (Ohio) at the Department of Primary Education and Dr. Scott Warring from the University of Central Florida at the Institute of Foreign Languages. It is a pleasure that both former scholars continue to return to our faculty regularly.
