Faculty of Education, Palacký Universtity Olomouc cooperates with 10 other partners from Europe on Erasmus+ Teacher Academy named Meta‑Scientific Literacies in the (Mis‑)Information Age (SciLMi). SciLMi focuses on equipping future as well as current secondary‑school educators across Europe with the skills to foster meta‑scientific literacies, i.e. critical thinking, digital and media literacies, and inclusive classroom practices. SciLMi team developed a training programme and learning modules to help future and current teachers guide their learners in navigating socio‑scientific misinformation and making informed democratic decisions.
Twenty pre-service teachers (students of education study programmes) from 5 different European universities (including students from Palacký University Olomouc) attended SciLMi Blended Intensive Programme. The programme consisted of over 2 months of regular online study activities and one week on site at the University of Santiago de Compostela in Spain in the week from June 9 to June 13, 2025.
Another twenty participants (this time in-service teachers) from countries all around Europe attended SciLMi Blended Intensive Training focused on Critical thinking for Effective Democratic Citizens at the same place in the week from June 16 to June 20.
The pre-service and in-service teachers of all disciplines had a great opportunity to prepare themselves for the challenges of a world shaped by misinformation. Participants acquired competencies in media and information literacy, critical thinking, and inclusive education, while engaging in a cross-country and interdisciplinary exploration of socially relevant topics such as climate change, environmental pollution, and food scarcity. Apart from that, all participants got the opportunity to share their teaching experiences and ideas with people from the whole Europe and make new friendships that may last a lifetime.
