Department for Science, Research and Doctoral Studies

The Department for Science, Research and Doctoral Studies (R&D department) provides support to academic staff and doctoral students in the implementation of project activities, ensures the administration of rigorous procedures, professorial and habilitation procedures, and the entire agenda of the Scientific Council of the Faculty of Education.

The R&D department:

  • connects researches, students and staff with resources, expertise, and opportunities to drive innovation and discovery,
  • addresses research topics and actively support research at every stage,
  • places an emphasis on excellence in research, interdisciplinarity of knowledge, and internationalization of research,
  • fosters collaboration across disciplines and creating pathways to transform into real-world solutions,
  • empowers our research community to tackle challenges and deliver meaningful impact locally and globally,
  • cares about impact of our research, we are open to cooperate with global community.

It provides support to academic staff and doctoral students in the implementation of external projects of domestic and foreign providers (Technology Agency of the Czech Republic - TACR, The Czech Science Foundation - GACR, European Commission – Horizon Europe - ERC, MSCA Exchanges; CREA, Digital Europe, etc.) and also internal grant schemes – university-wide student competitions IGA (support for specific research of doctoral students and academics), Dean's Grant Fund and others. It supports the research work of young scientist and is responsible for PhD. studies. Doctoral studies are focused on scientific research and independent creative activity of talented students and future academic staff. The R&D department provides research education and training and are responsible for research popularization.

Research journals

Faculty of Education of UP supports the scientific community with publishing professional periodicals focused on a wide range of areas of scientific research. These include, for example, two journals included in the ERIH PLUS database: the JTIE (Journal of Technology and Information Education) and e-Pedagogium. The Faculty also published Civilia; Elementary Mathematics Education Journal; Journal of Exceptional People; Culture, Arts and Education; Magister; and Trends in Education.

E-PEDAGOGIUM

The e-Pedagogium is an independent peer-reviewed journal for interdisciplinary research in pedagogy, with respect to pedagogy, special education, educational psychology and didactics of the disciplines. Its content is aimed at presenting theoretical and review studies, research communications and professional papers. The editors welcome all manuscripts that correspond in content to the defined areas. The journal is published four times a year in electronic form on the website of Palacký University in Olomouc, in two Czech and two English issues. In printed form it is published through the UP Publishing House in Olomouc. The sales of the printed version are provided by the editorial office of the journal.

JTIE MAGAZINE

JTIE (Journal of Technology and Information Education) is an independent scholarly journal that focuses on publishing the results of research investigations, theoretical studies, and professional papers in the fields of technology education, information education, and related disciplines. The journal is published twice a year.

JOURNAL OF EXCEPTIONAL PEOPLE

The Journal of Exceptional People is published by the Institute of Special Education Studies of the Faculty of Arts of the University of Olomouc. It is based on a biannual periodicity in both electronic and printed form and provides a high professional guarantee of published articles through an editorial and expert team of special educators, psychologists, therapists and other experts from the USA, Finland, Spain, Slovakia, Hungary, China, Russia, Poland and other countries. The journal focuses on people with exceptionalities, i.e. people with disabilities, but also with gifts, talents or special educational needs in the context of educational, psychological, philosophical and social health sciences or clinical and counselling approaches.

CIVILIA

The Civilia journal publishes original studies (theoretical, empirical and overview), discussion contributions, reports and reviews from the field of social sciences (especially philosophy, ethics, history and political science) and also from the didactics of the humanities and social sciences (current trends and reflections on the subject-specific didactics of social sciences in practice). The journal is published twice a year, and not only renowned domestic and foreign authors have the opportunity to publish on its pages, but space is also provided to doctoral students.

THE ELEMENTARY MATHEMATICS EDUCATION JOURNAL

The Elementary Mathematics Education Journal is a free electronic journal published by the Department of Mathematics Faculty of Education Palacky University in Olomouc which creates an area for discussion of issues in elementary mathematics education theory, innovations and research in education of mathematics teachers at primary and preprimary school levels, current problems and trends in mathematics education, assessment and evaluation in mathematics education, digital technology in mathematics education, psychology in mathematics education and also realized research in mathematics education.
This journal was founded on the initiative of academics and researchers of the Visegrad Four countries, but is open to all experts who deal with this issue.

CULTURE, ART AND EDUCATION

The magazine Culture, Art and Education is a peer-reviewed periodical published twice a year in Czech or Slovak. The aim of the journal is to support interdisciplinary communication and exchange of knowledge in various areas of social sciences, which are united by an interest in culture, art and their educational potential. It is intended primarily for didactics of expressive disciplines (art, music, drama or literary education), museum educators, art theorists and historians, educators of practical artistic disciplines, but also for experts working in the fields of museology, visual studies, media studies, cultural anthropology, etc.

MAGISTER

Magister is a peer-reviewed journal published twice a year, it focuses on presenting the results of current research in the Czech Republic and abroad with an orientation towards primary and pre-primary education. The journal provides a platform for the publication of original work on the topics of education, training and cultivation of the individual in the broadest sense. In the context of the contingency of a number of intervening variables in primary and pre-primary education, they evoke researchers to explore and uncover pedagogical realities.

Trends in Education is a peer-review scientific and professional journal that focuses on publishing the results of research investigations, theoretical studies and professional papers, mainly in the field of technology and technology in education, but also in related areas and disciplines. Scientific Council

The Scientific Council of the Faculty of Education of UP:

  • discusses the draft strategic plan for the educational and creative activities of the faculty, developed in accordance with the strategic plan of the university;
  • approves the proposals for study programmes to be implemented at the faculty;
  • proposes to the Rector the intention to submit an application for accreditation, extension of accreditation or extension of the validity period of accreditation of study programmes implemented at the faculty;
  • proposes to the Rector the intention to submit an application for accreditation of the habilitation procedure and the procedure for appointment as a professor in the case of procedures implemented at the faculty;
  • exercises its powers in the habilitation procedure and the procedure for appointment as a professor;
  • discusses and approves matters relating to doctoral study programmes, in particular the composition of subject councils,
  • approves the members of the examination committees of state final examinations, state rigorous examinations and state doctoral examinations;
  • approves proposals for the award of the Faculty of Education of UP awards, medals of the Faculty of Education of UP, and doctor honoris causa titles.

Editorial activity

Editorial activities at the Faculty of Education UP, which fall within the scope of evaluation of the Editorial Committee of the Faculty of Education UP, are the publication of periodicals and non-periodicals (in both traditional printed and electronic form) in the Palacký University Press.

Publication Fund

The publication fund is intended for employees and students of doctoral study programs at the Faculty of Education UP to support scientific research and publication activities.

The aim of the Publication Fund is:

  • to support, in particular, those employees and doctoral students who have no other option for financing outputs according to the 17+ methodology,
  • to improve the quality of publication outputs of employees and doctoral students of the Faculty,
  • to increase the production of outputs assessable according to the 17+ methodology, specifically in modules 1 and 2,
  • and to support project activities.

Ethics Committee

The Ethics Committee evaluates the general aspects of ethics and protection of important interests of research participants and ensures compliance with the minimum ethical standard resulting in particular from the Code of Ethics for Employees and Students of Palacký University in Olomouc. The Commission deals with ethical aspects of research conducted at the Faculty of Education of UP.

The activities of the Ethics Committee are governed by the internal standard PdF-B-23/07 Ethics Committee for Science and Research of the PdF UP.

Dean's Award

The mission of the Dean's Award of the Faculty of Education of Palacký University in Olomouc is to support significant and extraordinary activities of students of all study programs in full-time and combined forms of study.

The award is awarded by the Dean of the Faculty of Education of the Palacký University in Olomouc for each academic year. Proposals for the award can be submitted by academic staff of the Faculty of Education of the Palacký University or by the applicants themselves by September 30 for the past academic year.

Students can apply for the award in the following areas:
